Networks of European Cinemas (CREA-MEDIA-2025-CINNET)
The objective of the support is to establish and manage a network of cinemas with the aim of:
- Encouraging cinema operators to screen a significant proportion of non-national European films through incentives and joint projects;
- Contributing to increased audience interest in non-national films, including through the development of activities targeted at young cinema audiences;
- Supporting cinemas in adapting their strategies to a changing environment, including by promoting innovative approaches to attracting and engaging audiences, as well as through partnerships with other film industry operators and local cultural institutions;
- Fostering the exchange of best practices, knowledge sharing, and other forms of cross-border cooperation among network members;
- Contributing to the policy dialogue on the film industry by collecting data and disseminating the results of the network’s activities both within and beyond its membership.
Expected results:
- Increased audience for non-national European films in the European market;
- Attraction of new audiences for European films, including young cinema enthusiasts;
- Strengthening and revitalizing the cinema-going experience as a contemporary cultural activity;
- Adaptation of business practices in European cinemas towards sustainability and inclusiveness;
- Encouragement of the innovative potential of European cinemas through enhanced cooperation.
Description of activities to be funded under the call for proposals:
The cinema network should enable the implementation of the following activities:
- Networking activities: exchange of information, animation, training, and communication aimed at increasing audience reach and implementing innovative and joint actions, including in areas with low cinema presence.
- Providing financial support to participating cinemas that carry out the following eligible activities:
- Activities focused on promoting and screening European films and increasing the audience for non-national European films, contributing to a more sustainable and environmentally respectful industry.
- Innovative activities aimed at attracting new audiences and increasing interest among young cinema-goers in European films by renewing and enriching the cinema experience, including in areas where cinema infrastructure is underdeveloped.
- Leveraging digital transformation, including online tools and data applications.
- Adapting business practices of European cinemas towards sustainability, inclusiveness, and accessibility.
- Promotional and marketing activities in collaboration with other distribution platforms (e.g., television broadcasters, VOD platforms).
